E-Identiy, PKI-Infrastructure for students for use in the context of e-portfolios or online-exams. Do we need a further ETH-App useful for the students daily life within a term (lecture add-ons, administrative stuff, lecture recordings, group work, etc…)?

recent developments: Die Supportstelle iLUB (ilub.unibe.ch) ist neu als eigene Abteilung dem Vizerektorat Lehre unterstellt. Das Lehrsystem ILIAS ist nun das strategische Lehrsystem der Universität Bern, so dass externe Systeme wie SWITCHCast in ILIAS integriert werden. Neben Lehrveranstaltungs-Unterstützung wird das Lehrsystem auch für Dateiablagen und (inter)nationale sowie studentisch Arbeitsgruppen genutzt. Weiter ist dank den kontinuierlichen Usability-Verbesserungen und den ELBA-Entwicklungen ILIAS so optimiert, dass auch in Zukunft die Tools Umfrage, Test, Wiki und Forum als einfach nutzbare Einzelapplikationen eingesetzt werden können, und aktuell keine anderen Tools notwendig sind.
expected challenges in 2012: a) Entwicklung eines ILIAS-Plugin, das ILIAS und das neue Kernsystem Lehre (Administration von Prüfungen, Vorlesungen und Hörräumen) der Universität Bern verbindet.b) Weiterentwicklung- und Verbesserung des Digitalen Semesterapparates (Digisem) sowie c) die Druchführung des AAA-Projektes iVT / Academic Annotated videos (ETH, PHZH, Unifr, UniL, PHTG, Unibe).

recent developments: The auditoriums of the main buildings of the UNIGE are being equiped with whiteboards, which somehow change the teachers' way of teaching. For the students side, we launched (1) an e-portfolio pilot program, and (2) soft-skill seminars based on PLE.

recent developments: Umsetzung (Neuprogrammierung) bestehender Programmanpassungen der Lernplattform in einfacher auf neue ILIAS-Version “transportierbare” PlugIns. Programmierung eines Mobile-Learning Frameworks zur Verwendung der Lernplattform und spezialisierter Plattform-Objekte; es besteht inzwischen eine erste Version, die aktuell - in Zusammenarbeit mit anderen Hochschul-Institutionen der ILIAS-Community - weiterentwickelt wird. Performanceoptimierungen der ILIAS-Baumstruktur (Datenbank) und der weiterführende Umbauarbeiten der Server-Infrastruktur (Lastverteilung, Ausfallsicherheit, Monitoring etc.).
expected challenges in 2012: Upgrade der bestehenden ILIAS-Installation auf Version 4.2. Hilfestellungen und Kurzreferenz erarbeiten, neue Funktionskonzepte schulen, wie bsp. das neue E-Portfolio-Objekt in ILIAS. recent developments: HTW Chur switched from Claroline to Moodle; Moodle is now the predominant LMS in the FHO (St.Gallen, Buchs, Chur, Rapperswil(?)). The Distributed Classroom has been explored in the following study courses: Master of Science in Information Science, Bachelor of Science FHO in Systemtechnik, Master of Science in Engineering MSE.

recent developments: Several schools have launched pilot scenarios with a focus on collaborative learning and working. Pilots with mobile devices. Improving the interface between Moodle and Evento. Different forms of teacher training gain increasing importance such as workshops, webinars and coaching.
expected challenges in 2012: New design of FHNW-intranet. Moodle 2.x and interfaces with Evento and new intranet. Transfer of experiences from collaboration and mobile pilots into running business. Dissemination in schools with little eLearning activities, development of a common eLearning-strategy
PH FHNW
recent developments: During the first full year of the Department for Digital Learning many developments could be noticed. It has been part of the strategic initiative of the FHNW called “Diversity-Inclusion-Cooperation”. The Department has cooperated with several other departments to carry out and design further education and has promoted the inclusion of games as a topic in teaching learning. Additionally the department has organized several “Appetit” and “E-Labor” seminars that were based around recent e-learning themes. The last year also meant the launch of the official department blog (
http://www.digitallernen.ch), the start of the e-portfolio project and the kick off the iPad project (
http://www.digitallernen.ch/?p=815). Besides the new projects and initiatives the Department for Digital Learning has continued support the existing electronic learning platform Moodle. During the last year a growth of 70% more Moodle courses could be noticed since the start of the autumn semester of 2010.
expected challenges in 2012: For 2012 the Department for Digital Learning is looking forward for several new challenges. Mahara, one of the leading e-portoflio tools at the moment, will be added as another learning tool of the FHNW and the department will guide with the implementation process. But also existing learning tools will be updated and enhanced. The electronic learning environment Moodle will be updated to the newest version (2.x) and will be enhanced with a connection with Evento. Besides technical development the department plans to offer new courses as part of the MAS/CAS curriculums and to design a new training in e-competence.
