  • Icebreaker

Retrospect by Cindy

History of the SIG eCollaboration:

Kickoff in May 2010 by initiation of ETHZ

Facts:

  • Currently 22 members in 13 institutions
  • Reporting twice a year to the ETWG and eduhub community
  • Objectives of the SIG: Analyze state of the art in eCollaboration and eCollaboration tools, define the term eCollaboration, produce outputs, etc.

Reached:

The definition of eCollaboration as “collaboration of a virtual team over the internet” has been outlined at the 2nd meeting.

Decision: The difference between eCollaboration and eCooperation will be discussed in one of the next meetings.

  • Remark by Maria: Cooperation of a virtual team by mobile devices includes more than the internet.
  • A pool of experts has been defined (infos on Moodle).
  • Human aspects have been discussed: See presentation “The faculty's fear of openness” by Urs at the 4th meeting in April, 2011.

Wrap up: Input by Maria on the topic “trustbuilding”. Presentation of the platforms of ETHZ.

  • First output has been created in form of eCollaboration scenarios.
  • Still open: the topic “mobile devices” and decisions on outputs (papers, guides, website, etc.)

Workshop eCollaboration-Scenarios by Nathalie & Nicole

Intro

Objective of the workshop:

Categorize 10 eCollaboration-scenarios in groups of 2 participants on 5 posts according to the worksheet. Proposals to the search mask:

  • Implementing the same structure for the entering of scenarios
  • Replacing the item “implement” by “create”
  • Complementing the search mask with the item “activity”
  • Complementing the item “tools” with an interactive one (such as LMS)

Decision: The discussion will be continued in the forum.

12h00-13h30 Lunch
Mapping Techniques by Willi
  • Willi's idea: Structure the scenario's contents and relations between them by representing the scenarios graphically (see article information mapping, Wikipedia).
  • Demonstration of mapping techniques by Willi (see website www.visual.ly).

Suggestions:

  • Maria: Generate interactive graphics that represent all scenarios. To realize this we could advertise a student research project to the chair of Visuelle Kommunikation of the ZHdK.
  • Stefan: First of all the needs of such a proposal have to be defined. It takes a group (with a commitment) to clarify the outlines.
  • Philipp: The first step is to broaden the scenarios of eCollaboration and eLearning.
  • Maria: Who does create new scenarios?

Decision: Anybody of the eduhub community can participate by submitting new scenarios.

Social Media and eCollaboration

Marco presents a fact sheet, addressing the relation between eCollaboration and Social Media. Presentation Marco

Social Media Landscape Project:

  • A 2 years project provides access to Social Media tools to realize a communication strategy in higher educational institutions.
  • One of the objectives of the project is to expand knowledge sharing.

Fact Sheet:

  • The definition of Social Media by the FFHS distinguishes Social Media in a broad and narrow sense.

Conclusion:

Social Media and eCollaboration

  1. have the same objectives
  2. have the same motivation
  3. have the same players and
  4. need both a new organizational culture
  • Question Cindy: Are the different institutions participating in the SIG using Social Media in the narrow sense and in which way are they applying them?
  • Summary: Social Media as Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, etc. are used in institutions mostly for private purposes.
Outlook by Cindy

Decision: The format of the SIG will be maintained (with 2 f2f-meetings and 2 distance-meetings a year and with Moodle as communication and collaboration tool).

Brainstorming

What form of outputs do we want to generate?

  • Clusters: white and research papers, mapping of eCollaboration scenarios, visions, professional solutions, Social Media, eduhub webinar, contribution to the eduhub days, best practice examples, FAQ's.
  • Priority (after voting by participants): the mapping of eCollaboration scenarios (nevertheless other clusters can influence).

Brainstorming session

Decision: Maria, Willi, Stefan and Urs will commit themselves to the mapping of eCollaboration scenarios. Cindy will take the lead.

Topics of next meetings?

  • Clusters: Culture/netiquette of eCollaboration and Social Media, Google+, eCollaboration is fun, factors of success of eCollaboration, privacy vs. eCollaboration, creativity and eCollaboration, eCollaboration and eMail/eCollaboration without the internet.
  • Priority: Privacy vs. eCollaboration
Next SIG-meeting:

The next meeting will take place on

Thursday, November 10, 2011, from 10h00-12h00, online with SWITCHpoint Adobe Connect

The main topic will be “Privacy vs. eCollaboration - An input to the meaning of transparency”. Cindy will host the meeting and send the invitation in the forum.

Question: How can members be motivated?

Create a group on Google+. Cindy will send the invitation to all SIG-members.
