Learners' Voices @ USI & SUPSI
eLab and Gender Service of the USI & SUPSI have conducted a research on the use of ICT by their students. The research "Learners' Voices @ USI & SUPSI" is now available in Italian.
As base for the research a questionnaire was submitted to all students of the USI & SUPSI to analyze their familiarity with ICT and to see the impact of the new tools on their lifes and studies.
Here are some results:
- Consulting search engines and using e-mails are among the most diffused online activies.
- Reading online newspapers is quite common; however, printed newspapers are still more read.
- Students are quite familiar with ICT. However, they use them more to consult and retrieve information rather than to publish content themselves.
- ICT have become an integral part of leanring practices.
- Students consider e-learning as important and useful for their learning practices, however they do not consider it as fundamental.
- There are some differences based on gender: Male students use ICT more often and in a more differentiated way (e.g. to download podcasts, selling and buying online, subscribe to RSS feeds etc.), whereas female students use ICT more for social networks and interaction.
