OpenOLAT is a fully featured and very powerful Open Source Learning Management System (LMS) written in Java. The software is used by universities, schools and companies to deliver e-learning content, to do testing and assessment and to work collaboratively in various learning scenarios. OpenOLAT offers about 30 different course elements to implement didactical concepts and to build beautiful blended but also pure online courses. The newest version provides even a virtual classroom integration for Vitero, Adobe Connect and Wimba. Online editors are integrated and easy to use.
OpenOLAT is used by several schools and higher educational institutions in Switzerland and Germany, but is also being used in the US, South Africa and South America. There is a translation server in place where members of the community translate OpenOLAT into Portuguese, Spanish, Estonian, Polish and other languages.
The OpenOLAT initiative was founded in November 2011 by the company frentix, originally a spin-off company of the OLAT Project at the University of Zurich. OpenOLAT is based on OLAT but follows a different development strategy and roadmap for the future.
