Assessing primary student teachers' achievements in didactics of computer science with blogs

How to promote reflection for an interrelated understanding of didactical and disciplinary issues

In the following semester students will attend the seminar “media and informatics 2” for the first time. According to the new curriculum “Lehrplan 21”, the focus will be on didactical aspects of data structures, algorithms and computer engineering. The students will learn how to code and how to teach pupils to code in combination. That is a challenge, because students have to link personal learning experiences with their prior knowledge about primary teaching. Therefore, we will use a structured e-portfolio concept with blogs (in weebly, educanet2 or SWITCHportfolio). Students will write about their experiences in the seminar and provide ideas to introduce the topic in school. While writing (we will provide questions/prompts) students slow down their thinking processes and create a network between prior knowledge, theoretical foundations and new knowledge. The webinar will put our criteria for a good and deep reflection in this presentation up for discussion.
