From infrastructure to research and teaching: What does digitization mean for Swiss universities?

Digitalization has become a challenge of high strategic relevance for universities and scientific disciplines. This is evidenced by a broad variety of initiatives and activities. While digitization was initially rather focused on infrastructures, new courses of study are now being launched, digitization strategies developed, new research directions established, and organizational structures adapted. In our presentation, we will give an overview of this expansion of the digitization issue in the Swiss higher education and research system. Our observations and assessments are based on our research project in the realm of the NRP 77 on digital transformation. The presentation is aimed at audiences who are themselves involved in digitization at universities and in science, as well as audiences who are generally interested in how universities deal with new societal megatrends.
