Thesis Writer: A platform to support writers and supervisors

A newly developed support system for Thesis Writer is in use now.

A three year cooperation between writing and e-learning specialists of the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) resulted in a newly-created platform “Thesis Writer” aimed at providing guidance, resources and collaboration for academic writers. TW offers a word processor to its users, enhanced with several tools to understand, plan, structure and craft their theses. Next to a high number of short tutorials to instruct writers at each stage of the writing process, it offers linguistic support tools such as a phrase book, a collection of examples, and a corpus-based search engine to study language usage. TW can be used individually, but also supports cooperative writing by allowing several users to write simultaneously. TW is constructed bilingually with German and English and can be used by either first and second language writers.

In this webinar we will discuss what it means to support complex intellectual challenges like thesis writing and the basic conceptual idea of TW. You will be guided through the system and given examples of its working principles, including some first data regarding its usage, plus some future developments still in progress.
