How technologies help to offer a highly interactive course on research methods for a class of 75 students from three different master programmes

Aviva Sugar Chmiel, UNIL

This tutorial session proposes a tour of several tools used to encourage interaction, mainly on Moodle, during a research method course at the Institute of Higher Education and Research in Healthcare – Lausanne University Hospital (IUFRS).

The course aims at introducing different research methods currently used in health sciences and developing critical thinking about different research designs and methods. 75 students from three different master programmes follow this course. The masters are in nursing sciences, nurse practitioners and health sciences with different orientations: occupational therapy, nutrition and dietetics, physiotherapy and radiologic medical imaging technology.

Technologies and tools used to enhance interactivity are preregistered commented slides, speak-up, e-zappettes on Moodle, online tests, several wiki spaces and e-voting on Moodle by QR code.

We propose a return of experience and a discussion on the use of these technologies in a bigger class with students having a heterogeneous background.
